About the CSA Program

What is a CSA? 

Community Supported Agriculture provides the customer with produce directly from the farmer. By creating a direct connection between farmer and customer, both can benefit. For the customer they have comfort in knowing exactly how the produce is cultivated. The farmer benefits by having a committed customer for the season. The first step for the customer is to sign up and invest in the farmer at the beginning of the year. The farmer can use this investment to buy seeds and equipment for the season. There is the risk of crop failure that both the farmer and customer accept, but the farmer will do their best to ensure the success of every crop. The farmer in turn provides a weekly box filled with the customer’s share of the produce for the season. Communication between the customer and the farmer is valuable. The farmer can improve their selection each season based on this communication. A CSA program is very good for the local economy, community building and healthy living.

Green Flame Gardens understands that quality produce comes from plant selection, understanding, gardening practices and care. When choosing plants for this program we keep in mind flavor, selection, yield potential, compatibility with this climate and other plants. Any feedback you can provide helps improve the program too.

Green Flame Gardens’ CSA Program 

• The program will run for 20 weeks.
• The customer can review the crops planned for the season.
• Garden methods used are companion planting, barriers and organic deterrents (e.g. Hot pepper solution for pests)
• Fee is 425.00$ (payment plans can be arranged)
• GFG uses our own plant starts from our greenhouse.
• The pickup locations will be at 746 South Gower Drive Kemptville, the Kemptville Farmers’ Market and the Manotick Farmers' Market.
• The customer will get updates regularly.
• Cleaning, storage and uses will be provided.
• Recipes for produce may also be provided.
• Based on harvests, the customer may ask for more in their box with a 5% discount on extra produce (for members only)
